For lentil-non-lovers

Thoroughly mashed and mixed with a variety of vegetables and spices to form a stiff, patty-like gob that is fried on both sides, topped with melted cheese and served with a lot of mayonnaise on bread or a bun, lentils are delicious. Lentil lovers may protest that this burger doesn’t taste like lentils. Exactly.

After cooking the lentils until they’re soft, mash them and then while they’re still hot, add grated carrots or zucchini, finely chopped onions and garlic. Just mix it all together and then let it sit for about ten minutes to semi-cook the vegetables. Then add any spices you want to try, plus either cracker or bread crumbs (enough to absorb most of the moisture and make the mixture a little stiff). Once I used crushed tortilla chips.

Mix it all up and form patties, fry, add cheese. These are tasty but kind of squishy, so I usually eat them open-face on a piece of bread. (Don’t forget plenty of mayo or condiment of choice.)
