It costs energy and time to boot the computer up every time you need it, so it makes sense to leave it on when people are home and likely to use it. But do use the sleep mode, or if your old computer doesn’t have a sleep mode, simply turn the monitor off (screen savers are not energy savers)during the day.
At night, SHUT IT DOWN.
I hate the suggestion that we must never turn the machine off. I say show them who’s boss while there’s still time! Shut it down during the day if you know you won’t be using it for at least two hours. Anything less than two hours doesn’t really save energy. (Okay, okay. Leave the router on. Shutting it off can screw up the settings.)
You or the TV?
TVs also pull a lot of energy. Most people, who leave their TVs on all the time, have learned how to ignore them. So what’s the point? You’re just wasting energy! Future TVs may not be equipped with a OFF button, so exercise your option while you still can.
Bad TV habits deserve their very own page.
